Why does TopView have an alarm for "notif_voice_lastfailed"?
This indicates that a voice notification from TopView resulted in a failure. It is an alarm added to configurations by default to monitor and expose issues with voice notifications.
This is a “warning level” issue, more useful for administrators of TopView than it is for operators, or those on the plant floor:
- This can have many causes:
- A busy phone line, or
- A VOIP communication issue, or
- some other temporary failure (service interruptions)
- By default, TopView is configured to retry failed calls and any temporary issues often clear during the retry phase.
But, it could also indicate a significant issue if voice notifications and their retries continue to fail.
What to do about it:
- Look at the voice notification and Engine Logs in Admin Tools to investigate why the voice notification failed
- Is this a temporary issue, or indicative of a persistent problem?
- If test and production notifications worked before, why don't they work now?
- Prefer notifying TopView administrators of this alarm and not operators. It’s best left to TopView administrators to investigate and handle.
- You have the option to remove this alarm as the “Engine Health Warnings” throughout the TopView application suite will also highlight this issue.
If calls continue to fail, and test calls from the TopView Configurator fail as well, see our article on
VOIP and SIP issues for information on problem areas to correct.
